The gang of fraudsters did not enjoy the money stolen for long

A gang of phone scammers who swindled nearly 9,000 euros from a woman in Panevėžys were apprehended by police, and the money was returned to its owner.

Through effective operational work by police officers, a group of telephone scammers was caught after conning an elderly woman in Panevėžys out of nearly 9,000 euros. The investigation was overseen by prosecutor Mindaugas Ražauskas from the Panevėžys District Prosecutor's Office, with the criminal police department's robbery investigation unit taking charge of the case. It was revealed that a 32-year-old defendant, who was serving a prison sentence at the time, posed as a police investigator and convinced the woman that she had paid her utility bills with counterfeit money, necessitating a check of all her banknotes at home.
