Operation Rastreio: police returns another batch of stolen cell phones to their owners
The police in Rio de Janeiro are returning stolen cell phones to their owners as part of 'Operation Rastreio', with notifications sent out for pickups this week.
The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police is conducting another stage of returning stolen and recovered cell phones this week as part of its ongoing Operation Rastreio. Owners of the recovered devices are being notified to visit local police stations to reclaim their phones, with the distribution scheduled for Thursday, the 26th. Notifications are being sent either via telephone calls or WhatsApp messages through official police contacts.
Since the inception of Operation Rastreio in May of the previous year, law enforcement has confiscated over 13,200 stolen or robbed cell phones. Out of this total, nearly 5,000 phones have already been returned to their rightful owners. This effort underscores the police's ongoing commitment to combatting the rampant cell phone theft problem in the region, providing a measure of restitution for victims of such crimes.
The main retrieval location will be at the Cidade da Polícia, located in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, alongside several police stations in the Metropolitan area. In the interior regions of the state, victims will be able to collect their devices from local police units in their municipalities. The operation reflects a proactive approach by the police to recover stolen property and strengthen community trust in law enforcement.
