River levels are rising in parts of the country; first flood alert in ten locations
The first flood alert has been issued for approximately ten locations across the Czech Republic as river levels rise amid ongoing weather conditions.
On Tuesday, the Czech Republic issued its first flood alert in about ten regions due to rising river levels, particularly affecting areas such as Žďársko. Meteorologists are expecting mild increases in water levels throughout the day, especially along Moravská Dyje in Janov and through the middle and lower sections of Nežárka. This information was shared by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) on their website along with an ongoing weather warning.
Some rivers reached the first flood stage, out of a total of three stages, as early as Sunday evening, indicating a concerning trend. On Monday, two rivers, Sázava in Vysočina and Svratka in the Pardubice Region, briefly escalated to the second flood stage before reverting to alert status later in the evening at 25 different locations. This fluctuation in river stages highlights the dynamic nature of local weather conditions affecting water bodies in the region.
Several rivers were noted under the first flood stage on Tuesday morning, including Doubrava in Žlebech, Jizera in Železný Brod, and several others spread across different regions in the Republic. The continuing alert indicates a need for local communities to remain vigilant, as conditions could change quickly with further rainfall expected in the coming days, necessitating preparedness for potential flooding incidents.
