Mária Takáčová has developed and currently leads the AMAL language program at the non-profit organization Cesta von, which focuses on assisting individuals trapped in poverty to become self-sufficient. The program equips participants with essential Slovak language skills, enabling them to navigate bureaucratic processes and access health care services, thereby improving their quality of life. Takáčová, a resident of Košice, emphasizes the importance of such educational initiatives in breaking the cycle of poverty.

During her academic journey, Takáčová grappled with the decision to stay in Slovakia or pursue opportunities abroad, reflecting on her experiences as a high school student in Ireland and a subsequent acceptance into a university in Denmark. However, unforeseen complications led her to continue her studies in Košice, where she unexpectedly found a high-quality education with rigorous training and qualified instructors. This experience shifted her perception of education in Slovakia and motivated her to contribute to her community through the AMAL program.

The AMAL program exemplifies how targeted language education can empower individuals from underprivileged backgrounds, facilitating their integration into society. By acquiring language skills, participants can advocate for themselves in various situations, such as job applications and healthcare consultations, thus fostering greater independence and dignity. Through her work, Takáčová aims to create a positive impact in her region and inspire others to find strength in their local opportunities rather than seeking them abroad.
