AM Justice investigates judges and officials for error in warrants that resulted in the arrest of an innocent deportee from the USA

The Justice Tribunal of Amazonas has opened an investigation into two judges and two officials for errors in issuing arrest warrants that wrongly led to the detention of an innocent man who was deported from the USA.

The Tribunal de Justiça do Amazonas (TJAM) has initiated an investigation into two judges and two officials due to alleged errors in the issuance of arrest warrants that resulted in the wrongful detention of a 43-year-old man. This incident occurred when the man arrived on a flight from the USA at the Aeroporto Internacional de Confins in Belo Horizonte on August 13, 2025. Upon his arrival, federal police checked the National Warrant Database and found outstanding warrants against him, issued by TJAM.

After the man's arrest, law enforcement officials quickly discovered discrepancies in the identification; the photo and CPF associated with the outstanding warrants did not match those of the detained individual. This alarming realization prompted authorities to report the matter to the TJAM on the same day. Judge Túlio de Oliveira Dorinho from the Manaus Court of Penal Guarantees acknowledged the error and issued a counter-warrant, leading to the immediate release of the innocent man.

This case highlights significant issues within the judicial process, particularly concerning the verification and accuracy of information leading to arrest warrants. The TJAM's decision to investigate the responsible judges and clerks underscores the importance of accountability in the legal system, especially given the potential consequences for individuals wrongfully detained and the broader implications for public trust in judicial institutions.
