After bariatric surgery, young woman faces rare condition, spends months in ICU and reverses surgery that caused malnutrition
Uli Suellen, a 30-year-old photographer, underwent bariatric surgery but suffered severe complications, leading to months in intensive care and a reversal of the procedure due to malnutrition.
Uli Suellen, a 30-year-old photographer from Brazil, decided to undergo bariatric surgery in May 2021 to mitigate health risks associated with obesity. Weighing 115 kilograms and suffering from reflux, she was advised by a gastroenterologist that surgery was essential to save her life. However, just ten months later, Uli found herself in the ICU for the ninth time, confronting severe malnutrition and numerous health complications. She lost a staggering 75 kilograms over this period, but it came at a grave cost: she developed renal infections, ulcers, anemia, and even partial vision loss, leading her weight to plummet to 32 kilograms.
