LIVE: Congress's Farmer Maha Chowpal in Bhopal, Rahul Gandhi-Kharge will address
Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are set to address farmers at a 'Farmer Maha Chowpal' in Bhopal, protesting against the interim trade agreement between India and the US.
Today, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will address farmers at a 'Farmer Maha Chowpal' organized by the party in Bhopal. This event is set against the backdrop of an interim trade agreement between India and the United States that is being opposed by the Congress party, claiming it harms farmers' interests. The location, Jawahar Chowk, has undergone extensive preparations to accommodate the expected turnout and raise awareness among farmers regarding the potential negative impacts of this trade deal.
Congress officials have been actively visiting villages to explain to farmers how the trade agreement with the US can be detrimental to their welfare and that of the nation. Prominent party figures including Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari, Opposition Leader Umang Singhar in the Assembly, and former central minister Arun Yadav have released videos on various social media platforms urging farmers and the general public to participate in this important gathering. The event is designed to unify support against policy decisions perceived to threaten local agricultural interests.
According to the organizers, significant logistics have been put in place, including two large domes and a massive stage that can accommodate around 250 leaders and officials. They anticipate an impressive turnout of nearly 50,000 farmers, youth, and party workers from across the state to engage in the discourse at the 'Maha Chowpal', indicating a strong mobilization effort by the Congress Party in response to growing public concerns over trade policies and agricultural sustainability.
