Nigeria: Bagudu Urges Ministerial Aides to Strengthen Public Policy Advisory, Implementation

Senator Abubakar Bagudu emphasized the importance of ministerial aides in enhancing public policy formulation and implementation during a workshop in Abuja.

During a workshop organized by the Ministerial Aides Network (MANET) in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, Nigeria's Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, urged ministerial aides to play an active role in supporting policy formulation and implementation. He highlighted the essential contributions that special advisers and technical assistants make towards improving governance and national planning, as well as ensuring effective public service delivery in the country.

Bagudu acknowledged the ongoing efforts by MANET and KAS to empower political appointees through skill enhancement and professional development initiatives. He noted that these efforts were crucial in reinforcing the capability of technical aides across all levels of government, which would ultimately lead to better public governance in Nigeria. The minister underscored that their roles are fundamental to the functioning of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, reflecting the intricate constitutional structure that binds federal, state, and local governance in the nation.

As Nigeria progresses in its public administration, Bagudu's call for increased collaboration between ministerial aides and their principals serves as a reminder of the crucial interface between policy advice and political execution. By strengthening this relationship, the objective of efficient public service delivery can become more attainable, fostering a governance environment that can address the pressing socio-economic challenges faced by the country.
