Launch of the Labor-Management Council... "It will be a first step for cooperation"

The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Employers Federation launched a labor-management council aimed at fostering communication on key labor policies.

On the 24th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Employers Federation announced the launch of their labor-management council during a meeting in Seoul. This council is designed as a platform for dialogue between the government and business representatives to discuss important labor policies and aims to foster cooperation between both parties. Participants in the launching ceremony included Vice Minister of Labor Kwon Chang-jun and Korea Employers Federation Vice President Lee Dong-geun, who outlined plans for future discussions and initiatives to promote fair labor practices.

Vice President Lee emphasized the necessity of fundamental reforms to create a fair compensation system that reflects job value and performance, enhance labor market flexibility, and restore balance in labor relations to generate job opportunities for future generations. He stated that the council would focus on developing policy alternatives that allow for collaborative growth, highlighting the mutual importance of government support in this process. The establishment of the council is part of a broader effort, as similar councils were previously launched with labor unions.

In his remarks, Vice Minister Kwon pointed out the challenges posed by industrial transition, demographic changes, the reshaping of global orders, and advancements in artificial intelligence. He noted that addressing these complex issues requires multifaceted and layered conversations among stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the government and enterprises in protecting workers' rights, resolving dual structures in the labor market, and creating new jobs. The council is positioned as a significant first step towards tight cooperation in tackling these pressing challenges.
