Hanuman Chalisa in response to Namaz... Hindu organizations protest at Lucknow University

Hindu organizations protested at Lucknow University against students performing Namaz, leading to tensions and police intervention.

At Lucknow University, tensions escalated when Hindu organizations protested against a group of students performing Namaz at the Lal Baradari complex. On Tuesday, these organizations gathered to recite the Hanuman Chalisa near the university, resulting in clashes with police as they attempted to breach barricades to enter the campus. The authorities had deployed a substantial police force to manage the situation and ultimately dispersed the crowd after some altercations with law enforcement.

In the aftermath of the protest, Lucknow police issued notices to 13 students accused of disrupting public order by praying and chanting slogans at the site. According to the report from Hasan Ganj Police Station, the students allegedly obstructed construction works on the premises and engaged in religious activities in a public space, endangering peace. The administration has mandated that the involved students provide a heavy security deposit and two guarantors as a condition to ensure peace for a year.

The 'Lal Baradari' premises at Lucknow University became a flashpoint for conflict between Hindu and Muslim student groups following a historical barricading for the restoration of a historic structure. This incident illustrates the growing tensions in educational settings regarding religious practices and raises questions about the balance between maintaining order and allowing freedom of religious expression in campuses across India.
