Prime Minister Takaichi explains the removal of his column: 'I have not updated it for a long time'
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi explained the deletion of his political column from his official website, citing a lack of time since taking office.
During a session of the House of Representatives on the 24th, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi addressed the reasons for removing a column from his official website where he previously outlined his political beliefs and policies. He stated that since becoming Prime Minister, he had not had the time to update the column, leading to its deletion. This decision came after opposition leader Junya Ogawa of the Center Reform Coalition questioned the importance of the past writings as materials to assess a politician's consistency and accountability, demanding an explanation for the removal.
The column, which had been in place for over 20 years, included reflections on political situations and explanations of policies that Takaichi was involved with. However, it was taken down by the 18th of this month as part of Takaichi's effort to readjust the website to a more standard format after having it geared towards the recent elections. He explained that the transition back to a conventional site prompted him to remove several sections, including the column, due to its long lack of updates since his premiership began.
In addition to the column, Takaichi mentioned that he had removed several other elements from the site to make it more user-friendly. The decision has raised questions about the transparency and communication strategies of the Prime Minister, particularly in terms of maintaining and updating political communication in a digital age.
