Teenagers Who Posted Death Threats Against President on Emergency Board Sent to Prosecutors

Two teenagers have been sent to prosecutors for posting death threats against President Lee Jae-myung on an emergency response board.

Two teenagers, aged around 17, have been sent to prosecutors by the Seoul Metropolitan Police for allegedly posting death threats against President Lee Jae-myung on a public emergency response board. The threats were posted in September of the previous year, and the teenagers came to know each other through a voice chatting platform called Discord. The authorities consider these actions serious due to their implications on public safety and government authority.

One of the accused, identified by the initial 'K', has a history of making similar threats against students at high schools in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, and has already been detained for unrelated bomb threats earlier this year. There are ongoing investigations into other threats he may have made against schools in cities such as Incheon and Gwangju. These actions have raised concerns about youth behavior in the digital age, particularly regarding threats made on various online platforms.

Authorities are considering claims for damages against the teenagers due to the waste of administrative resources caused by their false reports. The Seoul Metropolitan Police stated that they will rigorously pursue and punish such threats under the framework established by the Public Threat and False Information Response Task Force, created in November of the previous year, highlighting the need for continued vigilance against public threats aimed at unspecified individuals.
