Barzani discusses developments in Syria and Iraq with Brack
Masoud Barzani discussed the situations in Syria and Iraq with U.S. envoy Tom Brack, highlighting U.S. support for Iraq's sovereignty.
Masoud Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, met with U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Tom Brack, to discuss the ongoing developments in Syria, as well as the election of Iraq's President and Prime Minister. Brack's visit to Erbil followed his discussions in Baghdad with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani. During the meeting, Brack acknowledged Barzani's contributions to preventing an escalation of the war in Syria and facilitating agreements between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Brack emphasized the U.S. desire for Iraq to be a sovereign state, underlining the importance of cooperation between the United States, Baghdad, and the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq. Barzani responded by asserting that Iraq's progress hinges on adherence to the constitution and the principles of partnership, balance, and consensus. He insisted that the newly formed Iraqi government must commit to implementing the constitution and principles of federalism to ensure stability and governance.
Furthermore, Barzani stressed the necessity for Iraq to make independent decisions and uphold its sovereignty while fostering mutual interest relations with neighboring countries. This includes a focus on the importance of collaborative relations with surrounding nations to enhance regional stability and development.
