'Jalisco is on fire': Narco blockades continue almost 48 hours after the death of 'Mencho'

Violent incidents, including vehicle burnings, persist in Jalisco following the death of prominent drug lord 'Mencho.'

The ongoing violence in Jalisco shows no signs of abating, as incidents of narco blockades continue to disrupt the region. On February 23, multiple vehicles were set ablaze in an attempt to obstruct traffic on a major highway that connects Autlán de Navarro with Unión de Tula. Specifically, the blockades occurred at the Mezquitán community within the municipality of Autlán, illustrating the escalating tensions in the area after the death of the notorious drug lord, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, better known as 'Mencho'.

State authorities confirmed that the violence began around 6:30 PM, where the vehicles were strategically positioned and ignited to hinder both incoming and outgoing traffic on the eastern side of the roadway. In response to the emergency, local security forces and emergency services were deployed swiftly to manage the situation, extinguish the fires, remove the obstructing vehicles, and restore traffic flow.

Videos rapidly circulated on social media depicting the burning vehicles obstructing the asphalt road, further highlighting the chaos and lawlessness in Jalisco post-'Mencho's' death. This incident reflects the ongoing strife between rival cartel factions and underscores the significant implications for public safety and regional stability as authorities grapple with the resulting surge in violence.
