Finland will start the final disposal of nuclear waste, becoming the first country in the world to do so later this year.
Finland is set to take a groundbreaking step as it prepares to initiate the final disposal of nuclear waste, making it the first country in the world to undertake this task. According to Uutissuomalainen, the site for this historic disposal is Onkalo, a facility carved into the bedrock of Eurajoki. This project is developed by Posiva, a company owned by Teollisuuden Voima and Fortum. The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority has granted Posiva a license to operate, with a final decision expected by the end of June.
