Syria confirms the continuation of domestic gas supplies to face the crisis

Syria assures the continued supply of domestic gas to address the current crisis amidst logistical challenges and infrastructure limitations.

Syria is reaffirming its efforts to maintain domestic gas supplies amid a crisis attributed to adverse weather conditions and aging infrastructure. Ahmad Qbeji, the Deputy CEO of the Syrian Oil Company, announced the arrival of a new tanker to Baniyas, bringing 1,927 metric tons of gas, which raises the total supplies to approximately 14,600 tons since early February. Another tanker carrying around 9,000 tons is expected to follow, highlighting an ongoing commitment to manage gas supply issues effectively.

Qbeji elaborated on the factors contributing to the gas crisis, which include both logistical challenges in storage due to the size and damage of existing facilities, many of which are around 75 years old. To address these challenges, the Syrian Oil Company plans to invest in new storage tanks to enhance the capacity for gas supplies and to mitigate future crises. The government's response appears proactive, aiming for sustained gas availability despite notable challenges in the infrastructure and supply chain.

Additionally, Abdelhamid Slat, the media director at the Syrian Ministry of Energy, confirmed that domestic gas supplies are continuing normally, with Syria currently receiving about 350 tons per day via Jordan. There have been no interruptions in gas filling operations, which are running at full capacity, and efforts to enhance supplies are ongoing, as demonstrated by the timely unloading of tankers to fortify gas reserves. This approach seeks to reassure the public and stabilize the market during a period of uncertainty regarding energy resources in Syria.
