A 20-year-old Chinese national has been sentenced to seven years in prison after causing a fatal drunk driving accident that left six individuals affected. The sentencing occurred on the 24th of the month at the Suwon District Court's Anyang branch, where Judge Jeong Joo-hee noted that the driver had been charged with violations related to aggravated punishment for specific crimes, particularly dangerous driving leading to death and injury.
On November 9th of the previous year, the driver operated his vehicle while intoxicated, managing to drive approximately 30 kilometers the wrong way on the Seohaean Expressway before colliding head-on with an oncoming van. At the time of the incident, his blood alcohol concentration was recorded at 0.157%, which is more than twice the level that would lead to driver's license revocation. The crash resulted in the tragic death of a 40-year-old man who was driving the opposing van, while five other passengers suffered severe injuries ranging from 7 to 32 weeks recovery.
Judge Jeong emphasized the severity of the crime given the circumstances, stating that the defendant had created a dangerous situation through his impaired driving.
