How the wild operation progressed: The mistress became the drug lord's fate

A significant operation led to the demise of notorious drug lord Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias 'El Mencho', following the tracking of his mistress by Mexican authorities.

Mexican authorities managed to track down the infamous cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho', through his mistress, as reported by The Guardian. Officials followed the mistress to a cabin in the woods outside the city of Tapalpa, which served as a hideout for the leader of the Jalisco New Generation cartel. Special forces from the Mexican army surrounded the cabin, leading to a tense confrontation.

During the ensuing gunfight between army personnel and cartel members, El Mencho attempted to flee into the nearby woods but suffered injuries that led to his capture. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries while being transported by helicopter to the hospital. The operation also resulted in the deaths of seven other cartel members and injuries to two soldiers, with authorities recovering numerous firearms and grenade launchers from the scene.

The successful tracking and operation were aided by intelligence provided by the United States, which allowed Mexican officials to pinpoint the exact location of the hideout. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has not only acknowledged the success of this operation but also the ongoing collaboration with U.S. intelligence in combating drug violence in the region, highlighting the international aspect of law enforcement efforts against drug cartels.
