Musa Hilal survives an attack by the Rapid Support Forces in North Darfur

Musa Hilal, leader of the Revolutionary Awakening Council and chief of the Mahamid tribe, survived a severe attack by Rapid Support Forces in North Darfur, Sudan.

On Monday, Musa Hilal, a prominent leader in the Revolutionary Awakening Council and chief of the Mahamid tribe, survived a brutal assault on the town of Mishtira in North Darfur, Sudan. The attack was launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) following intensive bombardments by drones and artillery, targeting a hospital, civilian homes, and the sheikh's premises. According to Ahmed Mohammed Abkar, the official spokesperson for the Revolutionary Awakening Council, Hilal is safe and currently in a secure location.

The RSF's aggression involved a strategic offensive from four directions using around 650 armored vehicles and allegedly utilized mercenaries from regions in South Sudan. This resulted in casualties among civilians as well as destruction and looting of homes, causing widespread displacement amongst the residents of the southern neighborhoods. Abkar described the incident as part of an underlying conflict between the RSF and Hilal, emphasizing that the RSF's real intention is to incite tribal divisions, plunder property, and forcibly displace populations based on color and ethnicity rather than pursue any legitimate cause.

Furthermore, reports indicate that the assault specifically targeted civilian areas, raising serious concerns about the RSF's conduct in conflict zones and the dire humanitarian implications for the local population. The Revolutionary Awakening Council reaffirmed their allegiance to the Sudanese Armed Forces, underscoring their commitment to maintaining unity in Sudan amid the ongoing conflict, which has exacerbated tensions in the region due to the ethnic and tribal complexities involved.
