Jang Dong-hyuk: If Jeong Cheong-rae's Meeting Proposal is Sincere, the Administrative Integration Bill Must Be Halted

Jang Dong-hyuk demands that if Jeong Cheong-rae's proposal for a meeting regarding administrative integration is genuine, the bill must not be pushed through.

Jang Dong-hyuk, the representative of the ruling People Power Party, expressed skepticism over Jeong Cheong-rae's proposal for a meeting to discuss administrative integration between Chungnam and Daejeon, stating that the legislative process for the administrative integration bill should be paused if Jeong's intentions are sincere. During an appearance on Channel A's YouTube program 'Political Signal', Jang criticized the timing of Jeong's proposal, indicating that it would need to be made well in advance of the bill's legislative approval rather than only the day before the law is supposed to be pushed through the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee.

Jang further questioned Jeong's sincerity, highlighting that holding a meeting after the law has already been advanced through the committee seems more like a formality than a genuine dialogue. He argued that such actions could be interpreted as an effort to make it appear that dialogue had taken place, while the main goal of the ruling party remains to push the bill forward, potentially shifting the responsibility onto the opposition party, who might be accused of hindering progress. Jang reiterated that if Jeong truly wishes to engage in meaningful discussion, the legislative push for the administrative integration bill should be halted.

Additionally, Jang pointed out that while the People Power Party initiated discussions on integration and does not fundamentally oppose the idea, the matter requires a careful approach that reflects the opinions of local residents. He maintained a position against rushing the legislative process without adequately considering these factors, emphasizing that thorough discussions should precede any legislative actions. Furthermore, he dismissed calls within his party for a member vote to sever ties with former President Yoon Seok-yeol, suggesting that focus should remain on addressing pressing issues rather than internal disputes.
