Concessionaire warns of preventive closure of Rio-Santos in case of landslide risks
The concessionaire managing the Rio-Santos highway has announced a potential preventive closure of 27 segments of the road due to rainfall forecasting landslide risks.
The concessionaire responsible for the management of the Rio-Santos highway (BR-101), which spans 270 kilometers, has initiated continuous monitoring of rainfall levels along the route. The announcement highlights the probability of preventive closures for 27 segments of the highway as early as this night, should the weather conditions worsen. Currently, some areas have recorded rainfall accumulations exceeding 100 millimeters.
Rodolfo Borrel, the Operations Manager for RioSP, stated that vigilance on the rainfall metrics is paramount, as extensive rainfall poses significant risks to motorist safety. The monitoring is currently active and is expected to continue until the morning of Tuesday, October 24. The possible road closures are a precautionary measure, ensuring that safety remains a priority amidst the changing weather conditions.
This alert comes at a crucial time when weather patterns can lead to dangerous road conditions. The proactive steps taken by the concessionaire reflect the importance of addressing natural hazards that can compromise travel safety along such a busy route. Travelers and local residents are urged to stay informed about the status of the highway, as further developments could evolve with the ongoing weather situation.
