Canada Post workers will begin voting on tentative agreements in April

Canada Post workers are set to vote on tentative agreements for a new contract with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers urging members to support the agreements after lengthy negotiations.

Canada Post workers are preparing to cast their votes on tentative agreements regarding new contracts with the national mail carrier. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) announced that the voting will occur from April 20 to May 30, with several meetings planned to ensure that all members of good standing from both urban and rural bargaining units can participate. These agreements come after more than two years of heated negotiations aimed at addressing the concerns of postal workers.

The CUPW national executive board has expressed a majority recommendation for members to vote in favor of the tentative agreements, which were first unveiled in December. Following a lengthy negotiation process, the final contract language was agreed upon in January. This vote is crucial, as only if a majority of members who participate in the voting support the NEBโ€™s recommendations will the agreements transition into enforceable collective contracts.

In conjunction with the ratification vote, the union will also conduct a simultaneous strike vote during the scheduled meetings. This strategic planning reflects the union's commitment to ensuring that the members feel empowered in decision-making processes, especially given the contentious backdrop of two years of negotiations, highlighting the ongoing labor challenges within the postal sector.
