SILAB 2026: There is no energy transformation without a digital revolution
A conference organized by UNEP/GRID Warsaw emphasized the necessity of digital transformation in achieving energy transition amidst regulatory and technological changes in Europe.
The conference, organized by UNEP/GRID Warsaw in collaboration with the City of Warsaw, brought together representatives from public administration, business, academia, the financial sector, and social organizations. The discussions highlighted a shared conviction that energy transformation is increasingly viewed as a project tied to economic competitiveness, security, and civilizational advancement. As regulatory and technological changes accelerate, their implications for the European economy become more critical.
Opening remarks by UNEP/GRID Warsaw's Director Maria Andrzejewska provided a broad perspective by referencing the warnings from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who indicated that the world is at a pivotal point. The pressures on climate, natural resources, and ecosystems are mounting faster than previously anticipated. This context sets the stage for urgent action and the integration of digital innovation in addressing environmental challenges.
The conference underscored the belief that the energy transition is not merely a technological shift but a comprehensive modernization project for Europe. Participants discussed the need for collaborative efforts across sectors to foster this transformation, ensuring sustainability and resilience in the face of climate change. The outcomes of such discussions could influence future policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing Europe’s economic and ecological prospects.
