Association of fans proposes test match and gradual end of single fandom in SP

The National Association of Organized Fans (Anatorg) is preparing a formal proposal to gradually end the single fandom policy for matches involving certain Brazilian football clubs.

The National Association of Organized Fans (Anatorg) is drafting a formal proposal aimed at gradually abolishing the controversial single fandom policy currently in place for matches involving major Brazilian football clubs such as Corinthians, Palmeiras, Santos, São Paulo, Guarani, and Ponte Preta. This policy, which restricts the presence of visiting supporters in stadiums, was established in April 2016 by the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat after violence erupted in several encounters, notably before and after the Paulista Championship match between Palmeiras and Corinthians.

The proposal, developed by Anatorg's lawyer Renan Bohus da Costa, is designed to be submitted to multiple authorities, including the Military Police, Public Ministry, Judiciary, and the São Paulo Football Federation. Notably, the document suggests conducting a controlled test match featuring visiting fans, which aims to assess the feasibility of neighborhood safety and sportsmanship in such scenarios, providing a systematic approach to encountering the long-standing issue of fan violence in Brazilian football.

If approved, this initiative would represent a significant shift in how football matches are organized in São Paulo, potentially paving the way for a more inclusive atmosphere in stadiums that could enhance the match-day experience. This proposal reflects a growing discussion around fan culture and public safety, straddling the line between encouraging passion for football and ensuring safety for all attendees in the Brazilian football landscape.
