VIDEO ⟩ Constructor in Stalaži: A new method is being used for building insulation
New wooden panels produced by SIA 'GPC' are being used to insulate a multi-apartment building in Valkā, supported significantly by EU funding.
SIA 'GPC', part of the 'Siltie nami' company group, is introducing a novel method for building insulation with the production of wooden panels for a multi-apartment building on Tirgus iela in Valkā. This renovation project, which totals approximately 960,000 euros in eligible costs, aims to modernize the building's façade and improve energy efficiency for its residents. The initiative is notable as it represents part of broader efforts to enhance housing quality in Latvia.
The project benefits from substantial financial support from European Union (EU) funds, with a significant capital discount covering 65.57% of the renovation expenses. This financial aid greatly alleviates the cost burden for residents, as they only need to finance the remainder through a loan. The Ministry of Economics has highlighted that several pilot projects are underway across Latvia for the insulation of multi-apartment houses using prefabricated wooden panels, marking a shift in construction practices.
Using these wooden panels allows for renovations to be completed up to twice as fast, as about 90% of the work is done in factories. This approach not only expedites the construction process but also mitigates the impact of weather conditions on construction timelines, making it a promising method for improving housing infrastructure in the region and contributing to sustainability efforts.
