Mexican drug lord 'El Mencho' was killed 'after visit from romantic partner'
Mexican drug lord 'El Mencho' was killed following a raid informed by a visit from a romantic partner, according to officials.
The notorious Mexican drug lord known as 'El Mencho', whose real name was Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes, was killed during a military operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco. According to Mexico's defense minister, General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, the capture stemmed from intelligence acquired through one of 'El Mencho's' romantic partners. This crucial information allowed security forces to coordinate a raid on his location effectively.
The operation resulted in a confrontation that left 'El Mencho' wounded. He was subsequently transported by helicopter to Mexico City for medical attention; however, he died en route. His death is significant not only because of his notorious status as the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) but also due to the larger implications it poses for drug trafficking and organized crime in Mexico, which has been plagued by violence and cartel power.
The U.S. had previously put a substantial reward of up to $15 million for information that leads to his capture, indicating the high value placed on apprehending this key figure in drug trafficking. The incident underscores the ongoing efforts of Mexican authorities, in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement, to dismantle powerful cartels like the CJNG, which have been responsible for a considerable share of the drug-related violence in the region.
