AI, Biomedical Science and More: UFTM Announces Eight New Courses for Uberaba and Iturama by 2027
The Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro (UFTM) has announced the creation of eight new undergraduate courses to be implemented in Uberaba and Iturama by 2027 as part of a growth strategy.
The Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro (UFTM) announced on Friday the introduction of eight new undergraduate courses, set to be implemented between 2026 and 2027 at its campuses in Uberaba and Iturama. This decision comes as part of a broader expansion plan that was initiated in 2023, aimed at enhancing the educational infrastructure and offering more diverse academic programs to meet the needs of the local community. The announcement was made during a general meeting with working groups and university management, indicating a collaborative effort in shaping the university's future.
According to UFTM's rector, Marinalva Vieira Barbosa, this initiative is a result of investments linked to the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), which prioritizes infrastructure improvements such as the construction of new buildings, classrooms, and laboratories. Earlier in 2023, after consultations with various departments, the UFTM's Superior Council approved proposals for these new courses to be forwarded to the Ministry of Education (MEC) for authorization. This recent decision signifies the university's commitment to expand its educational offerings and better serve the South Minas Gerais region.
With the addition of these courses, the university plans to allocate 84 faculty positions for the new programs, with each course expected to have 40 students per class. Most enrolled students will gain admission through the National High School Exam (Enem) and the Unified Selection System (Sisu), making the new programs accessible to a diverse range of candidates. This expansion not only reflects the university's growth but also aims to bring advanced education and training to the region, promoting economic and social development in Uberaba and Iturama, and enhancing the overall educational landscape in Brazil.
