An ocelot was rescued after being found on the roadside near the municipality of Buriti dos Montes in Northern Piauí, Brazil.

An ocelot was rescued on Monday, October 23, after it was discovered alongside a highway near Buriti dos Montes in Northern Piauí. A couple passing by spotted the animal and contacted a local animal protector for assistance. With the help of the Military Police, the ocelot was rescued and transported to a veterinary clinic for assessment, highlighting the collaborative efforts in wildlife rescue in the region.

The animal is scheduled to be retrieved on Tuesday, October 24, by a team from the Secretary of Environment (Semarh) and will receive specialized care in Teresina. Initial assessments by animal protector Regina Ferreira indicated that the ocelot does not have any visible fractures, but a complete diagnosis will still be conducted to ensure proper treatment and recovery.

Following its transfer to the Semarh, the health condition of the ocelot will be closely monitored. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of wildlife protection and the role of community members in aiding injured animals, contributing to conservation efforts in Brazil's rich biodiversity.
