Marko Reikop recalled playing a chair: sometimes being silly can be quite fun!

Marko Reikop humorously reflected on his experience of playing a chair in a famous opera two decades ago, sharing insights about the challenges and joys of the role.

In a recent episode of "Ringvaates," Marko Reikop reminisced about his unique role as a chair in the renowned opera 'Cinderella' by Rossini, which he performed more than twenty years prior. He shared his initial fears about the role, particularly regarding the visibility concerns and the difficulty in breathing while confined to the chair, noting that he was afraid of falling onto the orchestra below. Despite these challenges, Reikop found humor in his experience and expressed that being a chair was not all that bad after all.

Now, stepping back into the role of a chair, Reikop laughed and remarked on how silly it may seem, but it brings joy to himself and others. He recounted that the chair he inhabited this time had openings for his hands and face, making it more comfortable than his first experience. The light-hearted discussion about being a chair highlights the often-overlooked comedic elements present in theatrical performances, as well as the creativity that actors bring to unusual roles.

Stina Leek, the head of Kett Gallery, commented on the chairs used in the performance, adding another layer to Reikop's humorous narrative. This exchange not only reflects on individual theatrical experiences but also sheds light on the collaborative nature of performance art, emphasizing the importance of creating an enjoyable atmosphere for both performers and the audience alike.
