Polylaminin researcher will receive a medal from the government of Espírito Santo
Tatiana Sampaio, a researcher from UFRJ, will be awarded the Jerônimo Monteiro medal by the Espírito Santo government for her work on polylaminin, a molecular treatment for spinal cord injuries.
Tatiana Sampaio, a leading researcher at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), will be honored with the Jerônimo Monteiro medal, the highest accolade granted by the Espírito Santo government, in recognition of her innovative work on polylaminin, an experimental molecule aimed at treating spinal cord injuries. The event, scheduled for this Thursday, will be held at the Palácio Anchieta, the state government headquarters, and will be presided over by Governor Renato Casagrande.
The polylaminin research is still ongoing, and its efficacy has yet to be scientifically proven; however, the Espírito Santo government reports that five out of 26 patients treated with polylaminin come from the state. Governor Casagrande emphasized the importance of investing in science, noting that such investments could profoundly impact lives. He described the award as a way to acknowledge the exceptional and innovative work of Dr. Sampaio and her team, highlighting the potential of their research to rewrite the future for thousands of individuals suffering from spinal injuries.
This recognition is part of a broader trend; since the announcement of her research, Dr. Sampaio has received numerous honors for her contributions to science and potential advancements in medical treatment. The significance of the Jerônimo Monteiro medal not only underscores her individual achievements but also promotes awareness and support for scientific research in Brazil, particularly in areas that hold promise for improving health outcomes.
