Juha, Andy, and Thomas Engage in Epic Battles with Miniature Figures - Now They Explain Why Wargaming is Addictive
The largest miniature gaming event in Finland, Talvisota '26, took place in Helsinki, attracting over a thousand attendees for battles and community engagement.
This weekend, Helsinki's Cable Factory hosted Talvisota '26, Finland's largest miniature gaming event. Previously held at the Kattilahalli in Suvilahden, the event outgrew its former venue due to increasing demand. The new location provided ample space for players and visitors, with more than a thousand participating over two days, showcasing the growing popularity of miniature gaming in Finland.
Miniature gaming, or 'figupelit,' combines action with creative hobbies such as painting and model building, alongside social interactions with friends. Topias Rantala, one of the event organizers, noted that the appeal of tabletop gaming lies in the social aspect, which he believes is a major draw compared to video gaming. The community aspect fosters connections among players and enhances the gaming experience, underscoring the importance of social engagement in these events.
Rantala further highlighted how social media has played a significant role in amplifying the visibility and interest in wargaming. The interaction online helps build a community that shares techniques and showcases their creations, which can lead to a stronger sense of belonging and creativity among players. Events like Talvisota '26 not only serve as gaming opportunities but as social gatherings that celebrate the creativity and collaboration within the miniature gaming community.
