Father arrested for using slingshot to throw drugs to his son in prison in Ceará

A man was arrested in Brazil for attempting to use a slingshot to smuggle drugs to his imprisoned son.

Eliseu Barros Neto was arrested in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará, on Monday morning for attempting to throw marijuana into a prison using a slingshot. His son, Felipe Correia Barros, is currently incarcerated at the Regional Prison Unit of Cariri, associated with the criminal organization Comando Vermelho. The attempted drug smuggling was closely monitored by the state’s prison agency due to Eliseu's criminal history and his familial connection to a member of a gang at the prison.

During the operation, the correctional officers from the Regional Operations Group (Gore) caught Eliseu in the act of using the slingshot to launch drug packages into the prison yard. The incident raises significant concerns about prison security and the ongoing issues with drug trafficking within Brazilian correctional facilities, where gangs often control the flow of illegal substances.

The arrest emphasizes the challenges faced by law enforcement in curtailing attempts at contraband smuggling into prisons, particularly in regions where criminal organizations have a strong presence. It also highlights the lengths to which individuals may go to support incarcerated relatives, despite the legal consequences and risks involved.
