Claudia Sheinbaum after violent day: "Today there is already more tranquility"

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced improved security and tranquility in the wake of violent incidents following the death of notorious cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias ‘El Mencho’.

Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, reported that the situation in the country had calmed down following a violent day marked by blockades, vehicle burnings, and armed confrontations linked to the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as ‘El Mencho’. His death occurred during a military operation, leading to a swift reaction from security forces across affected regions, particularly in Jalisco.

In her morning press conference, Sheinbaum reassured the public that tranquility was returning, stating that the government, armed forces, and the National Guard were actively ensuring safety and normalcy across the country. She emphasized on the coordination among various security agencies and urged citizens to remain calm as efforts to restore order were underway.

The violent incidents that occurred were unprecedented and highlighted the ongoing struggles against organized crime in Mexico. Oseguera Cervantes was one of the world’s most wanted drug lords, leading the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). His elimination raises questions about the future of cartel dynamics in Mexico and the government's capacity to address the challenges posed by such criminal organizations.
