‘Evangelion’ Returns: A New Animated Series is in Production
A new series in the ‘Evangelion’ franchise is being produced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original anime and films.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the anime series and films Neo Genesis Evangelion, the Japanese studio Khara has announced a completely new series in the franchise. The project started today with a script by Yoko Taro, known for his work on Nier, and will be directed by Tsurumaki Kazuya, who is notable for directing FLCL and the Rebuild of Evangelion films, along with Yatabe Toruko, who worked on Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc. The music will be composed by Okabe Keiichi, recognized for his contributions to video games like Tekken, Final Fantasy, and The Seven Deadly Sins. The production will be a joint effort by Studio Khara and CloverWorks.
The announcement was made during the closing event of the 30th-anniversary festival held in Yokohama from February 21 to 23. Neo Genesis Evangelion originally premiered on Japanese television in 1995. It is a futuristic fiction created and directed by Hideaki Anno, depicting an organization called Nerv that protects the Earth from alien invasions by using biologically-based robots known as Evas, which are piloted by emotionally complex teenagers.
This new series not only reignites interest in the timeless narrative and themes of Neon Genesis Evangelion but also brings a sense of nostalgia while appealing to a new generation of fans. The combination of established and fresh talents in the creative team suggests a promising addition to the beloved franchise, aiming to expand on the original's legacy with new stories and characters.
