Energy resource prices fell over the week
Over the past week, prices for energy resources, particularly natural gas, have declined due to milder weather in Europe and stable supply flows from Norway.
Over the last week, the average wholesale gas price at the Dutch trading hub TTF reached €33.2 per MWh. The decrease in natural gas prices can be attributed to milder weather conditions across Europe and stable supply flows from Norway. Furthermore, futures contracts predict prices in the near term to be about €2-3 per MWh lower than analysts estimated a week prior.
Currently, the filling level of the Inčukalns gas storage facility is around 20.79%, while European storage facilities hold about 30.88% of capacity. During the week, the Klaipėda LNG terminal supplied the market with 581.31 GWh of natural gas, while consumption in Lithuania totaled 453.70 GWh, representing a 2.6% increase compared to the previous week. Additionally, 391.9 GWh of gas was exported to Latvia, and Lithuanian biogas plants produced 5.49 GWh of gas during this period.
In terms of oil, the average price reached $70 per barrel, which was a 2.2% increase from the previous week's price of $68.5 per barrel. Experts suggest that the rise in oil prices has been influenced by traders' concerns regarding market conditions, although specific reasons for this increase were not detailed in the report. Overall, these developments in energy prices reflect broader trends affecting the European market and could have implications for energy policy and economic planning in Lithuania and surrounding regions.
