Charges Filed in the Case of Missing Saara Arva

Charges have been filed against a man suspected of murder in the case of Saara Arva, who went missing in the fall of 2019.

The prosecutor has filed charges in the suspected murder case of Saara Arva, who disappeared in the fall of 2019. The accused, a man with whom Arva was seen spending time during the summer and early fall of that year in the Vesannolla area of Northern Savonia, has denied involvement in any crime. The charges include manslaughter and deprivation of liberty, and the case has now been submitted to the Northern Savonia District Court, although a trial date has not yet been announced. Police have been searching for Arva's body for years and suspect that Mika Moring, a man previously known as a serial predator, is responsible for her death. The investigation, which had not revealed any other suspects, has been ongoing, and police previously indicated that the last sighting of Arva was on August 31, 2019, in Konnevesi. Eyewitnesses reported that both Arva and Moring spent time together in the Horonkylä area of Vesanto around the time of her disappearance. In a significant update to the case, the remains of the 35-year-old Saara Arva were discovered in April 2024 in Vesanto, Northern Savonia, following extensive searches in the region, particularly between Keitele and Konnevesi. This discovery has brought new developments in the long-standing investigation into her disappearance and alleged murder, shedding light on a case that had been shrouded in mystery for several years.
