‘Three Administrative Integration Laws’ Presented at Legislative Judiciary Committee Meeting... Chungnam and Daejeon Can’t Narrow Differences

The Democratic Party has introduced three special laws for the establishment of integrated metropolitan cities in South Korea, but the opposition party continues to oppose the proposal for Chungnam and Daejeon.

On January 23, the Democratic Party of South Korea presented three special laws at the Legislative Judiciary Committee meeting, aimed at establishing integrated metropolitan cities in Daegu-Gyeongbuk, Jeonnam-Gwangju, and Chungnam-Daejeon. The Democratic Party argues that passing these laws is essential to conduct integrated elections during the 6.3 local elections, but the main opposition party, People Power Party, remains opposed to the establishment of the integrated city in Chungnam and Daejeon. The party's leader, Jeong Cheong-rae, has proposed a meeting to resolve differences, but opposition leader Jang Dong-hyuk has not publicly responded to this overture.
