Milanović reacts to government moves towards Israel: The army will not participate
Croatian President Zoran Milanović has declared the army will not participate in any military cooperation with Israel amidst discussions of collaboration with its military and defense industry.
In light of announcements regarding potential collaboration between Croatia and the Israeli military, President Zoran Milanović has publicly expressed his opposition to such partnerships. A recent phone conversation with the Prime Minister emphasized that any form of military cooperation with Israel would be unacceptable. This comes as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ivan Anušić is visiting Israel to meet with representatives of the Israeli defense industry and the Administration for International Military Technical Cooperation.
Milanović, serving as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Croatia, reiterated that the Croatian army (OSRH) would not engage in any capacity with the Israeli military. He indicated that the representatives of OSRH will not participate in any agreements or contracts with the Israeli military or its defense industry. This statement is positioned within the context of a large Israeli military operation in the West Bank, which raises concerns about the implications of any military collaboration.
The President's firm stance may have significant domestic and international ramifications as it conveys Croatia's recognition of the geopolitical tensions related to Israel's current military operations. Milanović's declaration not only sets the tone for Croatia's military relations but also aligns with broader concerns about the moral implications of engaging with military entities implicated in conflicts like those in the West Bank.
