SP government announces more dengue vaccine doses and creation of immunobiological hub

The São Paulo government has announced the delivery of an additional 1.3 million doses of the dengue vaccine and the establishment of a new hub for immunobiologicals.

During the 125th-anniversary ceremony of the Butantan Institute, São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas announced the delivery of an additional 1.3 million doses of the Butantan-DV dengue vaccine, following an earlier delivery of 1.3 million doses in January. This means that by July, a total of 2.6 million doses will be available in São Paulo for vaccination against dengue. The vaccination campaign began on February 9, targeting health professionals across all 645 municipalities in the state.

The announcement comes as the National Immunization Program (PNI) prepares to expand the vaccination campaign to the general public, with adults aged 59 set to be the first to receive the vaccine. The state health department aims to increase the capacity for vaccine production to meet the demand. This initiative is crucial as dengue cases have been rising, making the availability of the vaccine essential for public health.

Additionally, during the event, Governor de Freitas signed an authorization for the transfer of a 46,000 square meter land parcel in the Jaguaré neighborhood to the Butantan Institute. This land will facilitate the establishment of a new hub for immunobiologicals, enhancing the institute's capabilities in research and vaccine production, thereby further promoting health security in the state of São Paulo.
