Economists reduce forecast for Selic for the first time in over four months

Economists have reduced their forecast for Brazil's Selic rate for the first time in over four months, signaling potential changes in monetary policy.

For the first time in over four months, economists have revised down their forecast for Brazil's Selic interest rate, now projected at 12.13% for 2026, down from 12.25%, according to the latest Focus bulletin released on Monday, the 23rd. It marks a significant change after the Selic remained stagnant at 12.25% for 18 weeks. The monetary landscape may see a shift if the Central Bank's next meeting results in a rate cut, anticipated to lower the Selic from 15% to 14.5%, paving the way for the first reduction since May 2024 when the rate decreased from 10.75% to 10.5%.
