Free psychological and psychiatric care: how to access the service at UFPA
The Federal University of Pará (UFPA) offers free psychological and psychiatric services through its Psychology Clinic to enhance mental health access.
The Federal University of Pará (UFPA) provides free psychological and psychiatric care through its Psychology Clinic, associated with the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences (IFCH) in Belém. This initiative aims to increase public access to mental health services while also serving as a training ground for psychology students at the university. The clinic is committed to making mental health support available to a broader segment of the population by incorporating students into practical training while assisting individuals in need.
According to UFPA, the clinic organizes clinical psychology internships and offers free psychological assistance not only to the university community but also to the general public. Individuals facing socioeconomic vulnerabilities, with a monthly income of up to two minimum wages, are given priority for treatment. Currently, the clinic provides services such as psychotherapy, psychiatric care, psychosocial assessments, and psychological support intended for children, adolescents, and adults, reflecting a comprehensive approach to mental health.
In addition to individual care, the space at the UFPA clinic is an essential resource for those requiring mental health support in the region. With increasing demands for accessible mental health services, the initiative signifies an important step toward addressing mental health issues within the community, encouraging people to seek help without financial barriers and supporting those who are most vulnerable.
