DESFA: Full commitment of the 'Vertical Corridor' for March – Critical development ahead of meeting in the USA
A key development for the Vertical Corridor of natural gas is the auction held today, with 98% of the offered capacity secured for March.
A significant development for the Vertical Corridor of natural gas is reflected in today's auction, where almost all of the available capacity was committed, amounting to 25,000,000 KWh out of a total of 25,554,129 kWh offered. This natural gas, which is critical for regional energy security, will be transported via Route 1 from DESFA's facilities in Revithoussa to Ukraine.
According to DESFA, the auction was marked by strong interest, contrasting with previous ones where little to no interest was shown. This strong commitment indicates a shift in the region's energy dynamics and highlights collaborative efforts among regional Transmission System Operators (TSOs) such as Bulgartransgaz, Transgaz, VestMoldTransgaz, and GTSOU. Overall, this could enhance energy supply stability and diversification for Eastern Europe.
The timing of this auction is particularly significant as it coincides with the visit of Greece's Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, to the USA. This visit will include multiple meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral relationships and discussions on energy cooperation. The outcomes of these talks are likely to have implications for Greece's energy strategy, especially in the context of increasing energy demands and geopolitical factors affecting the region's energy landscape.
