New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the selection of Heatherwood Communities, LLC as the developer for a new mixed-income residential project located on state land on Conklin Street in Suffolk County. The project, which is valued at over $200 million, is set to create around 495 housing units on a roughly 13-acre site that has remained vacant and deteriorated for decades. Governor Hochul's administration is promoting this initiative as a significant step toward addressing the housing crisis by incorporating mandatory affordable housing units into the development.

The approved project is not just about increasing the number of available homes, but also ensuring that a portion of these units is reserved for individuals who meet specific income criteria.
