Helme is considering running again for the position of art museum director

Sirje Helme is contemplating her candidacy for the position of director of the Estonian Art Museum, where she has served since 2009.

The board of the Estonian Art Museum has announced a competition for a board member position. Sirje Helme, who has held the director role for 16 years, stated that she has not yet made a firm decision regarding her candidacy for the next term. Helme has played a significant role in the museum's administration and emphasizes her experience and qualifications as crucial factors in her potential decision.

Helme has a PhD in art history and has previously worked in various capacities within the art community, including as the head of the Contemporary Art Centre of Estonia and coordinator for the network of Soros Contemporary Art Centres. The director position being filled will include a three-year agreement with the possibility of a two-year extension, allowing for careful consideration of the best candidates. Applications for the position are expected by March 16.

The Estonian Art Museum Foundation encompasses five museums, including Kumu and Kadriorg, Mikkeli, Niguliste, and Adamson-Eric Museums. This significant art institution plays a key role in reflecting and promoting Estonian culture and art, making the appointment of its director a matter of great importance in the local arts community.
