Petras Džervus, recognized for his dedication to the Alytus district as an honorary citizen since 2019, has recently passed away. Born and raised in Punia, Džervus dedicated 44 years to teaching in local schools, and he also spent 15 years leading activities focused on local history for students, instilling in them a love for their homeland. His contributions to the cultural heritage of the area were recognized through the honorary title of Lithuanian local historian. He authored three notable books about the Punia region, which earned him several awards and accolades over the years.

Besides his academic contributions, Džervus was an enthusiastic guide for community excursions in Punia and actively participated in the local ensemble "Levandra." His leadership and personal example inspired many community members, showcasing his profound impact on local culture and education. His passing is a significant loss to the Alytus district community, which mourns the contributions of such a dedicated individual.
