Pedestrian Crossing Signs in Kaunas – Like in Russian and Belarusian Cities
A report highlights issues with pedestrian crossing signs in Kaunas, revealing significant non-compliance with traffic regulations.
A recent investigation by local journalists in Kaunas revealed that there are at least 364 pedestrian crossing signs in neighborhoods like Šančiai, Panemunė, and Aleksotas, with over 90% of these signs failing to meet the established traffic regulations. These signs are reportedly installed on brightly colored boards or are too small, which goes against the standards set by traffic regulations. The Ministry of Transport indicated that the edges of pedestrian crossing signs should be 60 cm or 70 cm depending on the type of sign, and a 2022 order strictly prohibits the installation of signs on brightly colored boards.
