Menšík is the world number 13, Kopřiva jumped 22 places
Czech tennis player Jakub Menšík reached a career-high ranking of 13th in the world after his semifinal performance in Doha, while Vít Kopřiva improved by 22 places to 65th.
Czech tennis player Jakub Menšík has made headlines by reaching a career-best ranking of 13th in the ATP world rankings following his impressive semifinal performance at the tournament in Doha. Menšík's journey in the tournament included a notable victory over world number two Jannik Sinner but ultimately ended with a loss to Arthur Fils in the semifinals. Previously, the highest rank Menšík achieved was 16th, which he held earlier this year since February.
In another significant achievement for Czech tennis, Vít Kopřiva made substantial gains, climbing 22 spots to reach the 65th position in the ATP rankings. Like Menšík, Kopřiva also reached the semifinals in Doha, but he fell short in his bid to compete in his first career final, losing to Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who later won the title in Rio de Janeiro. This marks Kopřiva's second semifinal appearance, notably improving from his previous best ranking of 78th from June of last year.
The rankings reflect a growing presence of Czech male players in the top echelon of tennis, with Jiří Lehečka at 24th and Tomáš Macháč at 32nd. This development highlights the increasing competitiveness and talent emerging from the Czech Republic in international tennis, providing strong representation alongside their female counterparts, who also maintain significant positions on the WTA tour.
