Estonian Olympic Committee rewards Henry and Tõnis Sildaru
The Estonian Olympic Committee has awarded cash rewards to Henry and Tõnis Sildaru for their achievements at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.
The Estonian Olympic Committee (EOK) has unanimously decided to reward freestyle skier Henry Sildaru with €70,000 and his brother Tõnis Sildaru with €35,000 for their performances at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. Henry Sildaru, a 19-year-old athlete, won a silver medal in the slopestyle event, marking his first medal in an adult title competition. This achievement is significant for Estonia, given the country's small population, making any medal win a remarkable feat.
EOK President Kersti Kaljulaid praised Henry Sildaru's exceptional accomplishment during the virtual committee meeting. She emphasized that winning a medal for Estonia, considering its population size, often seems like an unattainable dream. Achieving this at such a young age and in his first Olympic appearance showcases both talent and determination, setting a high standard for future athletes from Estonia.
Overall, the number of medals won by Estonian athletes at the Winter Olympics now stands at 11, which includes five gold, three silver, and three bronze medals. This reflects the country's growing presence in winter sports and highlights the importance of supporting young athletes like the Sildaru brothers in their pursuit of excellence.
