Star of the Wolfpack: Trophy
Mikael Jantunen, a key player for the Finnish national basketball team, celebrates winning the Turkish Cup with Fenerbahce.
Mikael Jantunen, a prominent player for the Finnish national basketball team, had the honor of lifting the trophy as his team, Fenerbahce, triumphed over their local rivals Besiktas with a score of 91-74 in the Turkish Cup final. Despite not scoring any points in the match, Jantunen contributed significantly with six rebounds and one assist during his 18 minutes of play. Fenerbahce's standout performer was Tarik Biberovic, who scored 28 points to help secure the victory.
This recent win marks Jantunen's second trophy since joining Fenerbahce last summer from Paris Basketball, where he celebrated winning the French championship the previous spring. During the 2023-24 season, he also celebrated a victory in the Eurocup while in Paris. With Fenerbahce, Jantunen has now seen his team achieve an impressive run, claiming their 16th consecutive victory in various competitions, having only lost eight games throughout the season.
Looking ahead, Jantunen is set to play for the Finnish national team, Susijengi, in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with Finland facing Belgium on Friday. This successful club performance and Jantunen's growing experience in high-stakes matches could bolster Finland's chances in the qualifiers as they aim to secure their place in the World Cup stages.
