New projects in the Sejm limiting alcohol consumption. But there’s no rush

Polish politicians are rushing to create new proposals to amend the alcohol law, but it remains uncertain if and when these will be implemented, despite a slight decrease in alcohol consumption.

In Poland, various political groups are competing to draft new proposals aimed at amending the country’s longstanding alcohol regulation law, originally enacted in October 1982. With over four decades of existence, this legislation has been revised multiple times, including a notable update in March 2018 that allowed municipalities to impose nighttime alcohol bans and set limits on the number of alcohol sales permits. Despite ongoing discussions and new project proposals, it is unclear when or if significant changes will be made, as alcohol consumption in the country remains a persistent issue.
